There are many legends in Japan. And among them, I chose the one that relates to the passage of the New Year, the Takarabune.
What is a Takarabune?
Well, it is a drawing of the treasure boat on which travel the 7 divinities of luck who are prayed at the beginning of the year in Japan to bring many good things!
These deities arrive on this big boat called Takarabune to spread lots of happiness, money, luck on their way. So kind of them!
During the night between the 3 and 4 day of January it is customary to put a drawing of the Takarabune under the pillow before going to bed. Because the dream we have that night is special, and it can be premonitory!
If the dream is not a good omen the custom wants the drawing to be thrown into the river to ward off the bad fate. But please, we must not pollute our rivers so collect the paper before it is lost in the water! Thank you!
